Exercise as a stress relief

Updated: Nov 1, 2021

Stress is an inevitable part of life. We know it's impossible to eliminate but we coaches at Elite Fitness Plus want to make you aware how important exercise is to help you manage stress. The physical benefits of exercise have long been established and staying physically active has been stressed by physicians for quite some time now. Studies are showing that exercise can help reduce stress and benefit mental fitness, which is what we see on the daily with our clients. Although, too often we coaches hear that people are just too stressed and busy to fit exercise into their routine. We have 3 reasons why exercise should be part of your stress management plan. You don't need to be an athlete and even if you are out of shape, we can help you make even a little bit of exercise go a long way.

  • Exercise pumps up your endorphins. Physical exercise helps increase your brain's production of endorphins, which are your body's "feel good" neurotransmitters. You may have heard it referred to as "runner's high' but that feeling isn't just confined to running.

  • Exercise is meditation in motion. After a great coaching session, some laps in the pool, or a fast paced tennis game you'll often find that concentrating on your exercises and mechanics have made you forget the issues of your day. As exercise becomes your daily routine to get rid of your tension, you will find that the resulting positive feelings and positive energy help you remain even keeled and calm in the other hours of your day.

  • Exercise improves your mood. Exercise helps your body to feel better and this helps your mind to feel better. We know in the beginning exercise is hard and probably more work than fun. Although, as you get into shape you will begin to tolerate exercise, eventually you begin to enjoy it, and even to depend on it. Yes, we know that sounds crazy, but we have so many clients that will attest to this! This leads to increased self confidence, your body feeling more relaxed, and can lower the symptoms that are associated with mild forms of anxiety and depression. Stress often disrupts your sleep and better sleep is a wonderful by product of regular exercise. These improvements to your mood give you a sense of command over your body and life.

If you already are involved in fitness coaching we encourage you to keep at it or if you are looking for a change or something different...Experience the Difference at Elite Fitness Plus. The benefits of exercise to your mind and body are significant!
